by Margaret Butler, Executive Director
Next week, our new Executive Director Ashley Bromley will start to transition into her position. Please join me in welcoming her to AAUP. Ashley brings four years of staff experience at the Coalition for Graduate Employees at Oregon State. She got hooked on organizing in her first year of a graduate program in Geology at OSU and became a leader in the union. As the Geosciences Department representative she was able to lead an organizing effort that got to 100% union membership and maintained it. As the VP for Organizing of CGE, she established a caucus system to amplify the voices of underrepresented groups within the union. Following these successes, she took a position as an AFT project organizer to add 900 additional graduate employees to the CGE bargaining unit. After the success of that vote, she became the staff organizer for CGE. While at CGE, she has led yearly organizing projects as new graduate employees arrive, continued the work to include more voices in the leadership of the union, and supported leadership development for many excellent CGE leaders. We are excited to have her perspective, her experience and her energy at AAUP-Oregon.
